We know we said we weren’t going to exchange presents this year, but we just couldn’t resist. Visit Masa Azul this month to listen to a special mix we commissioned just for you!

Logan Square resident and all-around cool person, Kristin Marks, put together two hours of non-stop jams to complete your dining and drinking experience. As a founding member of the Chicago Independent Radio Project (CHIRP), this gal knows what she’s talking about. Oh, and when she’s not busy winning Chicago Reader polls, she’s also an integral member of Logan Square’s Summer Girlfriends.

Check it out and see why we think it’s the perfect Masa Azul soundtrack.

Chef Jonathan was featured on WGN’s Lunchbreak segment making his signature Mexican Scotch Egg and Salsa de Molcajete! You can find the recipes here if you’d like to try your hand at these dishes in your own kitchen.

Jenny Kessler talks all things agave, plus shares her recipe for Masa Azul’s Black Betty cocktail, with Paul Leddy for Chicagoist’s Behind The Stick' video series!

Dust off your sequins and get your dinner coat dry-cleaned, because we’re officially asking you to be our New Year’s Eve date!Masa Azul will be offering a special, one-night only (duh) New Year’s Eve dinner package. Looking for a fun cocktail to make for all those holiday parties you’re attending this month? Jenny’s Polka Dot cocktail (appearing in this month’s TimeOut Chicago Kids) is the perfect mocktail for the family-friendly crowds. If you’re looking for some more mature action, Jenny has included the adult (read: booze) variation.

Is there such a thing as ‘too many chefs in the kitchen’? Not at Masa Azul… We believe that a culinary whole is often greater than the sum of its parts. It’s in that spirit that MasaAzul’s Executive Chef Jonathan Zaragoza will welcome Charles Welch, Sous Chef of Michelin-starred Sepia, to present a special one-night-only five course dinner.Of course, cocktails and spirit selections will be aplenty, courtesy of the combined talents of Beverage Director Jenny Kessler, resident ‘Agave Evangelist’ Jason Lerner, and Jason Baldacci of Owen & Engine. It all comes together on December 3rd, 7:30pm. $65 per person; beverages, tax, and gratuity not included. To make reservations, call (773) 687-0300. Only 40 seats available! Check out the dinner menu:

When we rolled back the clocks last weekend, we loved the feeling of having an extra hour so much that we decided to make it permanent. Behold our new hours:

     Tuesday-Thursday 6pm-11pm
     Friday-Saturday 6pm-12am
     Sunday 6pm-10pm

All together, that’s eight extra hours of Masa Azul every week. How will you use them all? Drinking tequila? Eating tacos? Dipping churros in dark chocolate?

Grubstreet came by and chatted with Jonathan and Jason about all things Masa Azul: Mexican spirits, Mexican flavors, and how frisée fits into it all.

Plus, look at all those gorgeous photos (thanks, Sky Full of Bacon!)

The Debate of The Century: When it comes to a dish of chocolate sauce, is it better to use a polite little spoon, or your finger?
Serious Eats contemplates this while giving our churros some love!
